A Glimpse into the
Egyptian Mysteries
In early 2005 I
developed an insistent urge to look into the
Grail and Egyptian mysteries and so contacted the man who could help me
investigate them. I spoke to my mentor Edmund and
after some
deliberations we agreed that I would spend a week at Grail House
retreat in
June.
Although I did not know
it at the time this turned out to be
the period of the Winter Solstice (Southern Hemisphere), when the Earth
or 4th degree initiation takes place. When June arrived I
said goodbye to my little family
and caught the two planes required to get me to Port Macquarie where
Edmund met
me at the airport. On the way back to Grail House he told me about some
strange and disturbing events that had been happening there. He spoke of strangers driving up to the
house in the middle of the night and native birds being killed and left
at the
entrance of his healing centre. He wasn’t sure who had done these
things but
had a variety of other experiences to suggest negative forces were
being
directed towards him.
Thankfully we arrived at Grail
House in one piece having narrowly missed driving off the side of the
road and as I saw the property
I felt heartened to be there again. It is a place where I have
had many wonderful though challenging inner experiences and have met
some old travelling companions from the distant past. However, the
events of the evening
along
with an earlier statement from Edmund about anticipating a trial by
fire must
have sunk into my subconscious, because during the first night I had a
dream in
which I thought I was being attacked by a vampire.
In the early hours of
the morning I felt myself being
suffocated as some fell creature tried
to bite my neck. Despite putting up a great struggle I was unable to
throw it off. Then I
must have woken up and as I looked over my shoulder caught a glimpse
of a strange face with two little horns
on its head. He was peering at me with a smile, which though not
malevolent
was certainly not human. Given what had just taken place it seemed
strange that
there was a wonderful sense of peace in the room.
I told Edmund at
breakfast, somewhat shamefacedly, that I
had been attacked by a vampire during the night and observed that it
did not
feel like a very auspicious start to the week. He seemed puzzled at
this
possibility and said it would be unlikely to have been a vampire
because what
would be attracting it? I then explained that I had been sleeping on my
chest
and felt I was being suffocated. He was then able to offer a
different
explanation. He said that he had suffered for some time from Sleep
Apnea and
his Doorkeeper (Guardian Angel), sometimes woke him up in the middle of
the
night, when she saw that he was in danger of suffocating. She would do
this by
knocking on the walls or making loud noises in the house.
Mulling it over and
feeling a little rueful at my
over-reaction I realised that this explained part of what had happened,
but
then
who was the horrible creature that I had seen?
It was not until later in the week, when I was reading a book on
nature spirits and came across a picture of two little Tree Fauns that
I
realised
it was one of these little folk I had seen. And that rather than biting
me, he had simply been leaning over me as I lay face down on my chest,
to get my attention in
order to wake me up. He must have thought, 'Strange creatures these
humans.'
So after that
challenging start to the week we settled
down to a daily routine practising psychometry and trance channelling
and
having discussions about the Grail and other mysteries. I asked Edmund
what
relationship the different mysteries such as the Egyptian and Grail
traditions had
to each other and he told me later that the Brothers had said they were
basically the same.
During the meditation on Tuesday I was
asked to make a choice between
three kinds of spiritual service. The three types were symbolised by a
rod
with a crystal at its tip, a caduceus and an eagle. The crystal rod
represented the path of the lightbearer, someone who dedicates himself
to the teaching role, the second symbolised the healer and the third
represented the path of initiation, the development of raised
consciousness through a series of challenges. As I felt I had been
following the path of the healer in my work as psychologist and the
purpose of the retreat had been to experience the Mysteries more deeply
I chose the eagle representing initiation.
Later that day I was
lying down and settled into a very pleasant,
restful state. As I lay there my inner vision must have opened up
because I saw a hawk approaching in the
distance. It swooped down towards me, flew along the length of my body,
hovered while glimpsing deep into my eyes and then landed on my
head! I was
left wondering what could this mean?
The next day was Winter
Solstice and as I walked towards the
healing centre enjoying the lush surrounds of the valley I quietly
invoked the
Father and asked for enlightenment. We then entered the
room and Edmund started the meditation but I was quickly drawn up into
a
sequence of visions separate from the meditation. A series of
beings appeared before my inner eye,
including a dog like creature (Anubis), snakes that looked at me and
flicked
their tongues and a crocodile who grinned widely as if he was an
old
friend. The paws of the Sphinx also came into view except that it was
made of beautiful white stone rather than the crumbling sandy material
we see today. Some authors believe that the entrance to the mystery
school was located between the feet of the Sphinx.
Then came Osiris and his son Horus, an
earlier
incarnation of the Christ Light, in his form as a hawk-headed human.
Only then
did I understand the significance of the waking vision of the hawk from
the day
before. I was then given a simple golden metal headband
with a sphinx
and cobra on each side of it and a large ruby attached to the front and
told it
was the sign of the initiate.
My vision was then
directed to a beautifully wrought golden sarcophagus and this had an
Egyptian figure carved in wood on it. The lid of the casket
opened and a man rose up out of it as of being resurrected. This
person was bearded and wore a
white
tunic and maroon vest. He came towards me with a great sense of
familiarity, hugged me and
said 'You and I are One'. He then merged into me and I felt a great
inflow of love. Coming out of the meditation
I felt charged with energy and Edmund
observed that my aura had become suffused with a radiant light. I had
the inner
conviction of having glimpsed a life in the Temple of Osiris in
association
with a High Priest of Horus.
The next day the
Brothers of the Light observed that when we have the
vision of a High Priest of Horus it means there are challenging times
ahead. We
then went on to do some visualisation processes where some of the
rituals of
the Egyptian mysteries were described and a High Priestess stood behind
me
indicating her offer of support. It was also explained that the high
priest was no longer in that form. I came to
understand the
nature of the entombment in the coffin and the artificial death that
the
Initiate has to undergo in order to awaken to a new life of raised
consciousness. It seemed significant that this had all happened on the
Winter
Solstice.
Once again a retreat with Edmund had
proven to be a watershed in my
experience and new threads about the Mystery Schools continue to
be revealed.
